When I began my career as a portrait artist in 2001, it was the time of film photography, “playing in the dirt,” aka the darkroom. It was immersive and all encompassing. I remember the beauty of watching the images radiate to the surface of the paper as it floated in the developing trays.
As my skillset grew, I needed more art, more creativity so I then began hand tinting my black and white images. It added a layer of artistry that was palpable, one I could get lost in.
With the invention of digital photography, I moved along with the crowd…a later adopter, resistant to the change but happy to find new control.
Over the past couple of years, I have found myself missing the “dirt” so I began oil embellishing and painting my canvases. Intoxicated yet again by the magic of putting paint to my photography, exploring and experimenting with different paints, brushes and palette knife techniques that have me yet again, lost in the art.
My heart is happy and fulfilled with my newest works, elevating the process and the pieces I am creating. I am beyond thrilled and honored to be commissioned by more and more clients for these oil painted and embellished legacy portrait works. My cup is full, my heart is exploding with the joy that my art is bringing to me yet again.
I look forward to sharing more about my painted work and embellishment techniques with you and to creating alongside my clients, pieces that excite and celebrate the beauty of those you love most in the most magical way.
